Do you check your chosen tradesperson’s credentials? …..
How much importance do you place on the credentials of the person you have asked to repair your boiler or your fridge?
In today’s extremely competitive marketplace, picking the right repair specialist or tradesperson here in Bristol can be very confusing and often it’s worthwhile checking out their accreditation if you are unsure of their capabilities to complete the work to the highest of standards.
Most industries today will have a governing body of some kind. For the gas and central heating installers, it would be Gas Safe, before it used to be known as Corgi. For an electrician, it might be prudent to check out whether they are listed on the NICEIC website.
We at Watertite have to pass regular checks by Gas Safe to ensure that we comply with their standards and are capable of carrying out work that will comply with all building regulations as well as Gas Safe own regulations and we take our duty of care to our customers very importantly.
If you are ever in doubt of someone’s capabilities or legality to do this work, ask to see their credentials, check for any feedback about their work, ask neighbours and friends.
You will soon find out who can be trusted and who is the proverbial cowboy!
As a Gas Safe registered engineer you are provided with an identity card, showing an image and a registration number that you are able to provide to potential customers which they can check with Gas Safe should they wish to do so.
The same principle will apply to NICEIC registered electricians, so if you are ever in doubt, ask to see their official registration card which should provide you with the necessary information needed to check out their qualifications to do the work required.
Remember, you can never be too careful about inviting the right person into your home to carry out those essential repairs!
That’s all for now folks!
